The debut album by American Idol Season 8 runner-up, Adam Lambert, is one of the sharpest, most unique, and most modern debuts by any AI alumni. Lambert was not going to let coming in second place stop him from putting out great music and a great album. Adam's amazing vocals got him noticed on American Idol and he showcases all he can do on For Your Entertainment.
Lambert tries to bring every genre of music together and does a perfect job at it. From dance to pop to rock, this artist is bringing glam rock back, but with his own little kick. Every writer and producer rushed to work on this album with the names of Pink, Justin Hawkins, Ryan Tedder, and Lady Gaga each contributing for this breakthrough debut.
The album opens up with 'The Darkness' inspired "Music Again" which comes off a bit like "I Believe in a Thing Called Love". A great beginning for the album. The song quickly sets the pace for the rest of the album as well as showing the listener his great vocal range. The singles that have been released from the album so far, the title track, "Whataya Want from Me", and "If I Had You", differ from each other completely, but they show that Lambert can succeed in any genre her pursues.
The ballads of the album, "Whataya Want from Me", "Soaked", "A Loaded Smile", and "Broken Open", slow down the pace of the album, but not in a bad way. These songs show Lambert's soft side and play as a break in between his other upbeat, up-tempo dance songs. The album also explores Lambert's sexual side with tracks such as "For Your Entertainment" and "Fever". The latter is the collaboration that got even me excited: Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga. Even though the Lady is not featured, Adam makes this old demo of hers completely his own.
Other fast paced tracks on the album like "Strut" and "Sure Fire Winners" are amazing pop creations with a glam rock coating that allow the album to continuing playing without a stumble. With the album coming to an end, Lambert throws out the Ryan Tedder produced "Sleepwalker", co-written "Aftermath", and the theme song to the movie '2012', "Time For Miracles". These tracks bring the album to a successful closing while providing some of Lambert's best vocal moments to the listener.
The only track not as impressive as the others, "Pick U Up", is not a bad song, but I felt that it seemed out of place on the tracklist. Overall the album is a great listen from the very beginning to the end. The track order was thought of very carefully and it works. The dance and pop songs mix in well the emotion ballads, and Lambert's voice and range is perfect throughout the entire fifty-six minutes and twenty four seconds.
The edgy and powerful glam rock musician set out to create an album that was one hundred percent him and the result was an amazing pop creation that is sure to get nominations this coming Grammy season.
The cover art proves that this album was going to be something never heard before, something out of this world. Glam is back! Besides the original tracklist, Lambert had a few bonus tracks that were not released at the beginning that I thought would have worked better than some songs that went onto the finished product. "Voodoo", "Can't Let You Go", "Master Plan", and "Down the Rabbit Hole" are songs that not everyone will be aware of and it is a real shame. My suggestion would have been scrap "Pick U Up" and "Time For Miracles" and add "Voodoo", "Can't Let You Go", and "Master Plan", nothing wrong with 15 tracks. This amazing album gets a 92% for creativity and uniqueness, plus his vocals are killer.
